What Causes exessive ankle motion at Sub Talar Neutral Positioning

Upon treating many patients who display excessive pronation and Supination of the Ankle Joint, the question has been put to me why does the ankle have excess movement?
If you can imagine that the foot is like a lever and it is held together by many ligaments, tendons, and bones , that are tightly packed together until the toe off.
The tendons and ligaments play an important role in the gait cycle phase and help postion the foot into the ideal plane for proper walking.
However such problems as transverse, and sagital plane motion problems, deformities of the front of the foot, and Peroneal Tendon Abnormalitiies, together with the Kinetic Chain and the can all play a part in the ankle joint becoming unstable,Injuries and the tearing can occur.
